In the spring of 1992 Phil Marsteller returned to his boyhood Amazon home with the dream of creating the world’s first luxury resort in the heart of the greatest peacock bass fishery on earth. This would be more than a place where fishermen from all over the world would experience the most exciting warm water fishing adventure of their lives.

It would also serve to protect and preserve for future generations this precious fishery and the native culture it sustained. With the launch of the Amazon Queen in 1992, and the opening of Rio Negro Lodge in 1998, that dream has become a reality.

Growing up in the Amazon, the son of missionary parents, Phil Marsteller has pioneered catch-and-release sport fishing in the Brazilian Amazon.
