Our group made up of new comers had a great trip this week going after the peacock bass with the help of their guides they had great time fishing.
The count for the week was 1257 peacock bass total with 66 being 10 lbs. or better and 3 of those being 20 lbs. or better.
Guinn and Betsy came with another couple Richard and Turna, the ladies gave the guys a run for their peacocks, Betsy landed a 16-pounder and Turna landed a 15-pounder. Richard landed a 17-pounder while Guinn came in with a monster at 20-pounds. Now on cat fishing Turna landed 4 monster cats of the back deck each one bigger than the other.
Two new comers came around the world to try their luck at catching a monster with success. Shen and Yang came all the way from China to see the Amazon and get a chance at their adventure of a lifetime. I didn’t know that in china the Aruana or Monkey fish is a very expensive fish and it is also considered noble fish. It’s also called a dragon fish because of its grace in the water, its long slender body and the two whiskers on its bottom lip. To catch one was also their goal among other fish. Shen landed a beautiful 20-pounder and his partner Yang landed a 15-pounder. We also want to give them special thanks for making the effort to come and wish them a safe trip home to tell all their friend of the wonders of the Amazon and the Peacock Bass.
Bob and Steve came down to try for all the different species, Steve used the finesse of the fly rod and as Bob chopped Steve just smoothly casted his fly behind him bringing in the fish. I don’t know how much Bob liked it having to do all the work but Steve had a good time. Steve ended up with a 16-pounder and Bob with a 17-pounder on their last day; I guess Steve didn’t get them all.
Amongst the father and son teams were Kraig and Newell, Mathew and Larry and last but not least Edward and Ronald. Kraig landed a 16-pounder and his dad Newell landed a total of 66 fish. Mathew also landed 20-pounder on his last day out and Larry landed a 12-pounder. Edward landed an 11-pounder and his son Ronald landed a 14-pounder for the week. This is a great trip for father and son and these three teams had a great time together just to add another wonderful memory to their collection of trips around the globe.
From my staff and I we thank God for this wonderful trip and wish our guest a safe journey home full of memories and the adventure of a lifetime. Thank you for fishing with us on the Rio Negro.
Take care,
Marc Cobos
